Adopt-A-School Program
UNLV and the Alumni Association are giving back to the community this Homecoming through the Adopt-A-School program.
The program's goal is to:
- Raise money and purchase Rebel Fun Packs as rewards for students who have excelled in the Accelerated Reading program at Cunningham Elementary
- Replenish the school's library by holding book drives during homecoming week
- Provide opportunities for UNLV students to interact with Cunningham Elementary throughout the year
- Give $5 from every fun pack purchased back to the Accelerated Reading program
Rebel Fun Packs
The Alumni Association — which has committed to purchasing 100 Rebel Fun Packs for Cunningham Elementary — is challenging alumni, donors, faculty, and friends of the university to match their total. Each $50 Fun Pack purchased goes directly to Cunningham Elementary and includes four tickets to the Oct. 17 homecoming game, four hot dogs and four sodas.
Book Drive
Visit the UNLV bookstore to purchase a book to donate to the Adopt-A-School book drive. The book drive will help supply Cunningham’s library with the books required for the Accelerated Reading program. The program motivates students to read books on their level. After reading those books, students take an online comprehension test, and earn points and various incentives if they score an 80 percent or better.
The Adopt-A-School subcommittee includes representatives from UNLV athletics, admissions, marketing and public relations, alumni relations, the Alumni Association, the Rebel Pride Council, and the office of civic engagement and diversity.
